What is the semester of contingency in SSS maternity?

The semester of contingency is the 6-month period made of the quarter of your delivery, miscarriage, stillbirth, or emergency termination of pregnancy and the quarter immediately before it.

Contributions inside this semester are not counted for your maternity qualifying period. The counted months are the 12 months before this semester.

SOC = Not counted

The semester of contingency is excluded when checking your 3 qualifying contributions.

QP = Counted months

The qualifying period is the 12 months before the semester of contingency.

Why your EDD month matters

Your expected delivery month decides which two-quarter semester is excluded from the qualifying period. This is why two members with different EDD months can have different qualifying periods.

For example, a December 2026 EDD uses a different qualifying period than a January 2027 EDD. That is why checking by EDD month is safer than guessing based on recent payments.

Can I still pay missing SSS contributions?

It depends on your member type, payment deadline, PRN, and the month you want to pay. Some members may still be able to pay current or upcoming months, but months already past the allowed deadline may no longer be payable.

Planning tip: Passed months should be checked in your posted SSS contribution record. Current or upcoming months should be paid early and verified in My.SSS.

What to check in My.SSS

  • Your posted contribution record
  • Your PRN or receipt if you recently paid
  • Whether at least 3 monthly contributions are posted inside your qualifying period
  • Whether the month you want to pay is still within the allowed payment deadline
