First Credit Card Guide
First UnionBank Credit Card: What to Know Before You Apply
Never had a credit card before? Here are the current UnionBank requirements, documents and first-time applicant questions worth checking before you submit an application.
This page does not predict approval. UnionBank decides whether an application is approved and what credit limit or final terms apply.
The short answer
Yes, you can consider applying even if this would be your first credit card.
UnionBank's published general qualifications refer to another-bank credit card only "if any". In other words, having an existing card is not listed there as a universal requirement for every applicant.
Meeting published requirements does not guarantee approval. UnionBank performs the actual application assessment.
Before you apply

What documents should a first-time applicant prepare?
UnionBank's official general document list includes one photo-bearing government-issued ID and proof of income, as applicable.
Government ID
Prepare a valid photo-bearing government-issued ID with an identification number or date of birth.
Proof of income
UnionBank lists examples such as:
- Payslip
- BIR Form 2316
- Original Certificate of Employment
- Latest ITR (1700 or 1701) with BIR or bank stamp
Why this fits an SSS site
If you already check your SSS contributions, salary or loans, this is a natural next financial question
Many employed members already deal with the same information that appears around a credit-card application: salary, payslip, TIN and SSS/UMID details. That does not mean SSS membership improves your chance of approval. It simply means the application questions overlap with information many SSS members already use.
Our role is to explain the process and costs clearly. UnionBank should decide who is approved.
What first-timers actually worry about
Questions people commonly ask before their first UnionBank card
These are the recurring decision points seen in first-time applicant discussions: salary, no previous card, payroll relationship, documents, application timeline and what happens after approval.

Before using your first credit card: understand the cost
A credit card can be convenient, but carrying a balance can become expensive. Before you use one for a large purchase or emergency, understand the interest, fees and repayment amount shown in your actual card terms and Statement of Account.
Use the Credit Card Cost CalculatorSSS membership and credit-card approval are separate
Paying SSS contributions, qualifying for an SSS benefit, having an SSS number or possessing a UMID does not mean you will be approved for a UnionBank credit card. SSS is a social-security system; UnionBank separately decides whether to approve a credit application.
