SSS – Death & Funeral

Payout Priority

Payout Priority refers to the legal order that SSS follows when releasing death or funeral benefits. Primary beneficiaries such as the spouse and dependent children are prioritized for monthly pensions. If no primary beneficiaries exist, secondary beneficiaries or parents may receive a lump-sum payment.

For funeral benefits, the person who paid for the funeral expenses—regardless of relationship—may claim the benefit as long as receipts are presented. This rule ensures fairness and practicality.

Understanding payout priority helps families navigate the claims process and prevents conflicts during benefit distribution.
