If you are still pregnant
File or complete the notification process as soon as possible. SSS states that Maternity Notification is a qualifying condition and should be completed before delivery, miscarriage, or ETP.
Employed
Notify your employer of the pregnancy and expected date of childbirth. The employer then transmits the Maternity Notification to SSS through the employer My.SSS account.
SE / VM / NWS / OFW
Notify SSS directly through the available member notification channels and keep the transaction number or confirmation.
If you already delivered or had miscarriage / ETP
Do not create a false or backdated MAT-1. The normal notification timing has already passed.
This does not mean the maternity claim is automatically gone. SSS separately allows maternity benefit claims to be filed within 10 years from the maternity event.
Your next steps
- Check whether a valid Maternity Notification already exists in My.SSS or your employer record.
- Keep any proof showing that you notified your employer or attempted to file.
- Use the correct Maternity Benefit Application route for your present membership/employment status.
- Prepare the birth, miscarriage, ETP, or separation documents that apply to your case.
- If the online claim is blocked by the notification issue, have the case evaluated instead of repeatedly filing duplicate notifications.
What if you informed your employer but they did not transmit it?
Keep whatever dated proof you have that you informed the employer: HR acknowledgement, email, maternity notice, submitted form, or similar record.
Ask HR or payroll to verify whether the notification was actually transmitted to SSS. Telling the employer and the employer transmitting the notification are two different steps.
SSS maternity late filing requirements
There is no single document list for every late-filing situation. The requirements depend on whether the issue is a late or missing Maternity Notification, an already completed notification with a late benefit claim, an employer transmission problem, or a separated-member claim.
- Keep any MAT-1 / Maternity Notification acknowledgement, transaction number, screenshot, or proof that you notified your employer or attempted to file.
- Prepare the birth, miscarriage, stillbirth, or ETP documents that apply to the maternity event.
- If employed or separated, keep the employer or separation documents that apply to your claim route.
- Use the correct maternity benefit application route for your present membership and employment status.
How to apply for late SSS maternity benefits online
If the maternity event already happened, the next step is normally the applicable maternity benefit claim process for your current member or employer situation—not creating a false or backdated MAT-1.
Use My.SSS and the applicable maternity benefit application or employer route. If the online claim is blocked because the notification is late or missing, keep your proof and supporting records and have the case evaluated.
See Maternity Filing GuideLate MAT-1 does not change the qualifying period
Notification and contribution qualification are separate issues. You still need the required valid posted contributions inside the applicable qualifying period.
How long can the actual maternity claim be filed?
SSS states that maternity benefit claim applications may be filed within 10 years from the date of delivery, miscarriage, or ETP. This is the claim period—not permission to intentionally delay Maternity Notification.
Already resigned or unemployed?
Use the separated-member checker because direct filing, employer advance payment, and separation-document requirements may also affect the claim path.
