SSS Contribution Correction Guide
How to Correct Your SSS Contribution Record
Missing contribution, wrong posting, wrong period, or payment not reflected? Identify the error first, keep your proof, and use the proper SSS correction process.
Quick answer
Do not pay the same month again blindly. Verify the error and request correction or posting from SSS.
SSS has an official service called Request for Correction/Refund/Posting/Adjustment of Contribution. It is available to members who need a contribution record corrected, posted, adjusted, or verified.
The standard SSS form is the Request/Verification Form. The exact supporting records depend on what went wrong and whether the contribution came from an employer or from an individual payment.
Step 1
Find the exact error
Step 2
Gather proof
Step 3
Request correction/posting
What kind of contribution error do you have?
Before asking SSS to correct anything, identify exactly what is wrong in your My.SSS record.
| Problem | What to check first |
|---|---|
| Contribution completely missing | Confirm whether the employer or member actually made the payment. |
| Payment made but not posted | Check PRN, receipt, payment date, and applicable period. |
| Posted to the wrong month or period | Compare the payment receipt/PRN with the month shown in My.SSS. |
| Wrong contribution amount or MSC level | Check the payment amount, contribution schedule, and period covered. |
| Employer deducted but no posting appears | Keep the payslip and ask HR/payroll to verify remittance. |
| Duplicate payment issue | Do not make another payment until the existing transactions are reconciled. |
If you are employed and the contribution is missing
For employed members, the employer is responsible for deducting the employee share and remitting the required contributions to SSS together with the employer share.
If your payslip shows an SSS deduction but the month is missing from My.SSS:
- Save the payslip showing the SSS deduction.
- Check your My.SSS contribution history for the exact month.
- Ask HR/payroll to verify whether the contribution was remitted and under which period.
- Keep the employer's written response or remittance proof if provided.
- If the record remains wrong, bring the proof to SSS for correction/posting/verification.
Do not automatically pay an employed month as a Voluntary member just to fill the gap. First determine whether the employer was responsible for the missing contribution.
What if the employer failed to remit?
SSS states that employers must remit employee contributions correctly and on time. Failure or refusal to deduct and remit contributions is an employer compliance issue.
SSS also states that an employee's entitlement to benefits is not automatically lost just because the employer failed or refused to report or remit contributions.
If you suspect non-remittance, keep your employment records and payslips and ask SSS to verify the employer's reporting and contribution record.
If you paid the contribution yourself but it is missing or wrong
This can apply to Self-Employed, Voluntary, Non-Working Spouse, and other individually paying members.
Before requesting correction, prepare:
- Payment Reference Number (PRN)
- Official receipt or electronic payment confirmation
- Date paid
- Amount paid
- Applicable month or period
- Current My.SSS posting shown for that transaction
SSS uses PRN-based electronic collection and posting, so if the payment went through but does not appear correctly, the PRN and proof of payment are important for tracing the transaction.
Do not make another payment just because the first one is not showing where you expected it. Verify the existing payment first so you do not create a duplicate or another wrongly applied contribution.
Can I back-pay a missed contribution month?
This depends on the membership type.
SSS states that late contribution payments of Self-Employed, Voluntary, and Non-Working Spouse members are not allowed. Missed months remain payment gaps because retroactive payments are not allowed.
That is different from correcting a payment that was actually made but posted incorrectly. A correction request cannot turn a genuinely unpaid month into a valid retroactive payment when the rules do not allow it.
Employer late payments are treated differently because employers can become delinquent and may be required to remit unpaid employee contributions together with applicable penalties.
What form is used to correct an SSS contribution record?
The current SSS Citizens' Charter identifies the transaction as:
Request for Correction/Refund/Posting/Adjustment of Contribution
Available to all members under the SSS Account Management Group.
The standard requirement is the Request/Verification Form. On the form, one of the available transaction choices is Correction/Refund/Posting/Adjustment of Contributions.
If you are filing the request yourself, complete the applicable member sections of the form. If an authorized representative or company representative files it, the authorization portion must also be completed as required.
What documents should you prepare?
The exact supporting documents depend on the type of correction and the period involved. Start with the standard form and bring the records that prove what should have been posted.
| Document | When useful |
|---|---|
| Request/Verification Form | Standard SSS correction/posting/adjustment request. |
| Valid identification | For identity verification at the branch or transaction point. |
| Payslips | If an employer deducted SSS but the contribution is missing. |
| PRN and payment receipt | If you personally paid but the contribution is missing or wrongly applied. |
| Employment details | If SSS needs to verify an employer, period of employment, or remittance history. |
| My.SSS contribution screenshot/printout | Shows the current record you are asking SSS to correct. |
For some historical manual-verification cases, SSS may require additional employer contribution-list records. Follow the exact checklist given by SSS for your period and correction type.
Do I need to visit an SSS branch?
Contribution-record correction can require verification of payment, employment, and historical posting data. The current SSS Citizens' Charter lists this as an Account Management Group service and uses the Request/Verification Form as a standard requirement.
Start by checking the record in My.SSS and gathering proof. If the error cannot be resolved through the normal contribution/payment channels, bring the correction request and supporting documents to SSS.
You can contact SSS first if you are unsure which proof is required for your specific error.
Why contribution corrections matter for SSS maternity benefit
A contribution error can affect maternity eligibility or benefit computation if the affected month falls inside the correct maternity qualifying period.
Before assuming a missing contribution will change your benefit, identify the exact qualifying months first. Then compare those months with the corrected contribution record.
Best order to check
- Find your maternity qualifying period.
- Check those months in My.SSS.
- Identify any missing or wrongly posted contribution.
- Request correction/posting if the payment should be there.
- Recheck your maternity estimate after the record is corrected.
How to monitor the record after requesting correction
Keep the acknowledgement, reference, or branch transaction details from your correction request.
Recheck your My.SSS contribution history after SSS completes the correction. Confirm the exact month, contribution amount, and posting before relying on it for a loan or benefit computation.
If the contribution still appears wrong, use the original correction reference and supporting proof when following up instead of starting a completely unrelated request.
Common mistakes to avoid
Paying the same month again
Trace the first payment before creating a duplicate transaction.
Trying to back-pay a VM/SE/NWS missed month
SSS does not allow retroactive late payment for these missed months.
Discarding payslips or receipts
These records can be crucial when SSS verifies what happened.
Correcting the wrong month
For maternity, first confirm which months are actually inside the qualifying period.
