SSS Maternity Leave Calculator & Guide Philippines

Employee and Kasambahay members can calculate their 105-day, 120-day solo-parent, or 60-day maternity leave dates.

Select your SSS membership type and maternity case first. The calculator will show only the leave steps that apply to you.

Other SSS member types skip the employer-leave schedule and go directly to the SSS maternity-benefit path.

Step 1: Member Type & Maternity Case

Not sure which type to choose? Check the Diagnosis on your Medical Certificate from your OB/doctor. Do not guess based on symptoms.

Quick answer

How many days is maternity leave in the Philippines?

The paid leave period depends on the maternity case.

SituationPaid leaveKey point
Live childbirth105 daysSame period for normal delivery and cesarean section.
Qualified solo parent120 days105 days plus 15 additional paid days, subject to qualification and documents.

Maternity leave is counted in calendar days. Weekends and holidays inside the continuous leave period are included.

Leave vs benefit

What is SSS maternity leave?

For this calculator, the dated employer-leave schedule is intended for Employee and Kasambahay members. Other SSS membership categories may still qualify for the SSS maternity cash benefit, but they do not use the same Philippine employer leave-date workflow in this tool.

Leave is not the same as the cash benefit. This page calculates calendar leave dates. Use the SSS Maternity Benefits Calculator for the peso estimate.

Plan your dates

When can maternity leave start?

For live childbirth, maternity leave may be credited as a combination of prenatal and postnatal leave. The leave is continuous and the compulsory postnatal portion must not be less than 60 days.

The calculator uses 15 days before EDD as a suggested planning date only. It is not a rule that every employee must start maternity leave exactly 15 days before the expected delivery date. Most employees will still confirm the actual leave start with their employer or HR closer to delivery.

The calculator gives you a simple planning answer first. If your approved leave start is different, your employer or HR can confirm the final work schedule.

Return date

How is the return-to-work date calculated?

The calculator counts continuously from the planned leave start date. The last leave day is the final calendar day inside the applicable 105-day, 120-day, or 60-day period. The estimated return-to-work date is the following calendar day.

Weekends and holidays count

The leave period is based on calendar days, not only scheduled workdays.

Actual delivery may change the plan

If delivery happens earlier or later than the EDD, confirm the final schedule with your employer or HR.

Optional extension

Can maternity leave be extended by 30 days?

For live childbirth, the Expanded Maternity Leave Law provides an option for an additional 30 days without pay. The law generally requires written notice to the employer at least 45 days before the end of maternity leave, subject to the applicable rules and medical-emergency exception.

The 30-day extension is not another 30 days of paid SSS maternity benefit.

Leave allocation

Can maternity leave days be allocated to the father or another caregiver?

For live childbirth, a female worker may choose to allocate up to 7 days of maternity leave credits to the child’s father, whether married to the mother or not, or in qualifying situations to an alternate caregiver. The mother’s own leave credits and corresponding benefit are reduced by the number of days allocated.

This allocation does not apply to miscarriage or emergency termination of pregnancy.

For employed members

What should you ask HR or your employer?

If you are employed, maternity planning also includes notification, payroll, salary differential, and the final return-to-work schedule.

  1. Confirm your expected delivery date and planned maternity leave start.
  2. Ask whether the maternity notification has already been submitted or certified.
  3. Confirm how the employer will handle the SSS maternity benefit advance or reimbursement, if applicable.
  4. Ask for the employer’s salary-differential computation if you are covered.
  5. Confirm the final approved leave dates and expected return-to-work date.
  6. If using the optional 30-day unpaid extension, give the required written notice on time.

Benefit qualification

Does maternity leave automatically mean you qualify for the SSS cash benefit?

No. Leave rights and SSS benefit qualification are not the same calculation. SSS maternity benefit qualification generally requires at least three posted monthly contributions in the correct 12-month qualifying period plus the applicable notification and claim requirements.

Special cases

Special maternity leave situations

Cesarean section

For live childbirth, the paid maternity leave period is 105 days whether delivery is normal or by cesarean section.

Solo parent

A qualified solo parent may receive an additional 15 paid maternity leave days for a total of 120 days for live childbirth, subject to qualification and documentation.

Miscarriage, ETP, or stillbirth

The maternity leave period is 60 days. For planning, use the actual medical event date rather than the original EDD. See the SSS miscarriage maternity guide for the pregnancy-loss path.

Resigned or separated from employment

Separation may affect which employer handles documents or payment, while SSS benefit entitlement still depends on contribution and timing rules. Use the complete SSS Maternity Benefits Guide to route the situation correctly.
