Quick answer
Having a current active SSS Salary Loan does not automatically stop you from qualifying for SSS maternity benefit.
Maternity eligibility is still based on the maternity-benefit rules, including your qualifying period, posted contributions, notification and claim requirements.
Important distinction
Active loan vs matured unpaid loan
If the Salary Loan remains wholly or partly unpaid upon maturity, SSS may collect, deduct or withhold the outstanding balance—including applicable interest and penalties—from an applicable SSS benefit.
Taglish: Kung active pa at hindi pa matured ang Salary Loan mo, hindi iyon automatic dahilan para ma-deny ang maternity benefit. Mas importante kung matured na at may unpaid balance.
Will SSS deduct your Salary Loan from maternity benefit?
If the loan is still active/current
Do not automatically assume the maternity benefit will be reduced
The current benefit-collection rule is specifically tied to a Salary Loan that remains unpaid upon maturity.
If the loan already matured with unpaid balance
Benefit collection rules may apply
SSS may collect, deduct or withhold the outstanding matured balance, including applicable interest and penalties, from an applicable SSS benefit.
Does having a Salary Loan change maternity qualification?
No. A Salary Loan does not replace the maternity qualifying rules. You still need to qualify based on the applicable contribution and claim requirements.
What happens to your Salary Loan during maternity leave?
Maternity leave itself does not cancel the Salary Loan. If you are employed, the employer continues to have Salary Loan payroll deduction and remittance responsibilities under the applicable SSS loan rules.
Ask HR or payroll these questions
- Was my Salary Loan amortization deducted during the leave period?
- What payroll amount was used for that deduction?
- What month or amortization did the deduction cover?
- Was the deducted amount already remitted to SSS?
- If a scheduled amortization was missed, how will it be handled?
Ask for a clear payroll breakdown. A payroll deduction is not automatically the same thing as SSS directly reducing your maternity benefit.
What about salary differential?
Salary differential, SSS maternity benefit and Salary Loan repayment are separate items. If your employer’s payroll computation looks confusing, check each amount separately rather than assuming the Salary Loan changed your SSS maternity-benefit computation.
Salary Differential CalculatorMaternity payout lower than expected?
Check the maternity side and the Salary Loan side separately.
1. Confirm the approved maternity amount
Compare your approved benefit with your own maternity-benefit estimate.
2. Confirm what was actually credited or advanced
Separate the approved amount from bank crediting, employer advance or reimbursement timing.
3. Check whether the Salary Loan is actually matured and unpaid
A current active loan should not automatically be blamed for a lower maternity payout.
4. Check payroll deductions separately
If employed, compare your payslip or payroll breakdown with the maternity amount.
Maternity payout delayed?
A delayed payout is not automatically caused by the Salary Loan. First check the maternity claim/release stage and bank or DAEM status.
Can you apply for an SSS Salary Loan while on maternity leave?
Maternity leave itself is not an automatic Salary Loan disqualifier. If you are still employed, the normal Salary Loan eligibility rules still apply.
Your current employer must electronically certify the application. Employer certification includes confirming that you are presently employed, your net take-home pay is sufficient for the monthly amortization, and the employer will handle payroll deduction and remittance.
What if your Salary Loan is late but not yet matured?
A late payment still needs attention, but it is not the same status as a Salary Loan that has already matured and remains unpaid.
Check your current statement and payment posting, then bring the account current under the applicable Salary Loan payment schedule.

Need another credit option while managing maternity cash flow?
A credit card is separate from your SSS maternity benefit and Salary Loan. If you are comparing another credit option, review eligibility, fees, interest and repayment capacity first.
