SSS – Benefit Computation

Qualifying Contribution Period

The qualifying contribution period refers to the 12-month window immediately before the semester of contingency. Only contributions posted during this period are counted when evaluating a member’s eligibility for sickness and maternity benefits. This is why timing is crucial: even if a member has hundreds of contributions in previous years, missing months within the qualifying period can invalidate a claim.

The qualifying period ensures fairness in benefit distribution by requiring recent, active participation in the SSS system. Members who skip payments or experience posting delays may fall short of the minimum requirements even if they have been paying for years.

To maximize eligibility, members should regularly check their My.SSS records and ensure employers submit contributions on time. Any discrepancies discovered during the qualifying period should be corrected immediately.
