Retirement Lump Sum

A Retirement Lump Sum is a one-time payment given to members who do not qualify for a monthly pension because they have fewer than 120 paid contributions. It may also be chosen by members who prefer an upfront amount instead of a monthly pension. The lump sum consists of the member’s and employer’s total contributions, along with interest. Choosing a lump sum means forfeiting the lifetime pension option, making careful financial planning essential.
