A Dependent Child is a minor or permanently disabled child entitled to receive a share of the SSS survivorship or disability pension. Children may be legitimate, illegitimate, legitimated, or legally adopted. To qualify, they must be unmarried, unemployed, and below 21 years old unless permanently incapacitated for self-support.
Legitimate and legally adopted children receive equal shares, while illegitimate children receive half of the share granted to legitimate children. Benefits stop once the child reaches age 21, marries, becomes employed, or recovers from disability.
The dependent child provision ensures continued financial support for children following the member’s death or disability.
Hospital delivery in the Philippines can easily cost ₱60,000 - ₱200,000 depending on the hospital and type of delivery.
Many parents use a credit card to manage these expenses while waiting for their SSS maternity benefits.
