A Secondary Beneficiary is an individual entitled to SSS death benefits only when no primary beneficiaries exist. Under SSS rules, secondary beneficiaries consist exclusively of the deceased member’s dependent parents. They do not qualify for a monthly pension but may receive a lump-sum death benefit.
To qualify, parents must prove financial dependency on the member. If both parents survive, the lump sum is shared equally; if only one survives, that parent receives the full amount.
The secondary beneficiary system ensures that financial assistance is still provided even when the member leaves no spouse or children.
Hospital delivery in the Philippines can easily cost ₱60,000 - ₱200,000 depending on the hospital and type of delivery.
Many parents use a credit card to manage these expenses while waiting for their SSS maternity benefits.
