A Designated Beneficiary is a person named by an SSS member under older SSS forms prior to the adoption of the statutory primary–secondary beneficiary hierarchy. Modern SSS rules generally do not recognize designated beneficiaries if statutory beneficiaries exist. A designated beneficiary may only claim benefits when no spouse, child, or dependent parent qualifies under SSS rules.
Designated beneficiaries, when recognized, may receive a lump-sum death benefit but cannot receive a monthly pension.
This rule reinforces the SSS mandate to prioritize legal dependents over personal nominations.
Hospital delivery in the Philippines can easily cost ₱60,000 - ₱200,000 depending on the hospital and type of delivery.
Many parents use a credit card to manage these expenses while waiting for their SSS maternity benefits.
